Budget Restaurants in Stavanger

Stavanger is one of Norways most expensive cities. It is also a small place so budget friendly cafes and restaurants are fairly hard to come by. As a general rule, the less pricey places are often Chinese and Thai restaurants that offer ‘lunch’ menus pretty much all day long at a good price.

Below the picture are some restaurants that work well if you’re traveling Norway on a budget.

Akropolis:

Charming Greek restaurant with authentic a la carte menu and a very reasonable Sunday buffet at 149 NOK.

Naree Thai:

Naree Thai is a centrally located restaurant with simple décor and friendly staff. This is a lunch time favourite with the locals. The ‘lunch’ is served pretty much all day and for around 80 NOK you can get a main course of a slightly smaller size than the regular dinner. Just about the cheapest proper meal you can get in town! They also do take away.

Café Sting:

At the top of Valberget, right next to the old watch tower, Café Sting has established itself as a bit of an institution in Stavanger. The menu is a mix up of dished from most parts of the world and includes sandwiches at about 95 NOK and pasta and pizza dishes at around 150. They have out door seating in summer and a roof top terrace with an excellent view of the city and the fjord. The inside is also beautifully decorated with chequered floors and slightly crooked walls. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly.
